Planned Giving
La Porte County Symphony Orchestra musicians give us the gift of music. They enthusiastically share their talent each and every time they perform, giving the community top-notch live performances that are memorable and inspiring. The community, too, can give the gift of music — through the LCSO’s Planned Giving program. By including the LCSO in your estate plan, you are helping ensure that the music you love will be heard by generations to come.
“Planned Giving” — also known as gift planning or deferred giving — offers various ways a donor can leave money or assets to the symphony upon the donor’s death. Whether you’re a person of significant means or someone of modest wealth, planned giving is an opportunity now to support the LCSO of the future. Here are some examples of what LCSO donors are doing now to support the future of music in our community:
- Naming the LCSO in their will, so that the LCSO will receive a
percentage or a fixed amount of the donor’s estate. - Naming the LCSO as owner or beneficiary of all or part of their
retirement plan, such as an IRA, 401(k) or Keogh plan. - Naming the LCSO as beneficiary of all or part of their life insurance
policy. - Setting up a Charitable Remainder Trust, so that the donors and their
beneficiaries can receive income payments during their lives, while
making a future provision for the LCSO. The trust allows donors to
receive a fixed income (annuity trust) or an income that may grow with
the trust investment’s (unitrust). At the end of the trust, the residual
benefits the LCSO. - Setting up a Charitable Lead Trust, so that the LCSO receives income
from the donor’s trust during an established time period, after which the
trust assets are returned to the donors - A Charitable Gift Annuity allows you to make a generous gift to the orchestra while providing yourself with an income source that you can count on for the rest of your life. You can fund one for yourself or for another person so the payments last as long as either of you live.

Some donors may choose to remain anonymous when they include the LCSO in their estate plans, and the LCSO understands and respects that decision. But by alerting the LCSO of the gift, we can clearly understand the donors’ desires and we can ensure that the donors’ wishes are carried out. Also, by letting us know about the planned giving, LCSO can celebrate the donors’ generosity, thank them during their lifetime — and perhaps inspire others to make a similar commitment.
