New Musician Auditions
The La Porte County Symphony (LCSO) and Music Director, Dr. Carolyn Watson, announce auditions for the 2023-2024 season. Auditions** will take place at Bethany Lutheran Church located at 102 G Street, La Porte, IN.
** Update as of August 19: Due to popular interest, all audition times for September 5th (7-9:30 p.m.) and September 13th (8-9:30 p.m.) have been filled. We have planned for a third audition date on September 20th beginning at 6:00 p.m., which will be dependent on how many further sign ups we receive through Sept. 1st. If you are interested but can’t make the current open audition date, or if we end up not needing the third date, we are also happy to receive video recordings for auditions.
The orchestra is seeking qualified musicians to fill vacancies in the following positions:
- Bass Clarinet
- Principal French Horn
- Section Percussion
- Keyboard
- Associate Principal Violin II
- Principal String Bass
- Section Violin
- Section Viola
- Section Cello
- Section Bass
- ALL Instruments are also available to audition for subbing and/or future LCSO opportunities
The 2023-2024 season will feature seven performances comprising four mainstage classical subscription concerts (including a side-by-side with local music educators), children’s education concerts, the Hoosier Star Fundraiser, and Holiday at the Pops.
The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra is a per service orchestra offering contracts on an annual basis. All positions are paid. The 60-piece orchestra includes musicians from La Porte, Chesterton, Merrillville, Michigan City, South Bend, Valparaiso, and Michigan.

Audition Requirements for all musicians:
- One solo with contrasting movements, or two contrasting solos, from the standard repertoire
- Two standard orchestral excerpts for your instrument
- Sight reading
