Alicia Wingate is a violinist originally from Lima, Peru, but she grew up and currently lives in Chesterton, IN. Music has always encompassed her life and she is very passionate about playing. Ever since she was young, Alicia has been interested in classical music and has enjoyed branching out and becoming familiar with different genres on her violin. In her free time, she likes to transcribe Peruvian songs to violin and has showcased many of these original transcriptions at Peruvian gatherings in Northwest Indiana. She hopes to continue to grow as a musician and further expose her Peruvian culture through violin playing.
Aside from being a full-time member of the LCSO, Alicia works as a Bilingual Options Counselor for Northwest Indiana Community Action. Her work there consists of assisting clients in the application process for home and community based services for the aging and disabled population of Northwest Indiana. She also engages with her other passions in her free time such as art, reading, hiking, running, biking, and cooking.
Alicia has been a part of the LCSO for three years and also performs with the South Shore Orchestra in Valparaiso. One thing she admires about this ensemble is the professionalism that is brought to the orchestra. She believes that each individual brings a unique talent to the ensemble and that is why it is so great to be a part of this group.
